Migrate Existing Users to Secure DNS

Existing customers with Phishing and Content Protection have VPN-based clients. Follow these steps to migrate from VPN-based connectivity to DNS-based connectivity.

  1. Navigate to Protections > Phishing and Content Protection (tab).
  2. Enable Phishing and Content Protection if not already enabled.

Devices are not prompted for any configuration change

  3. Confirm that the Deployment Type option shows On-Device VPN selected.
  4. On the console Devices page > Device Policy Groups tab, create a new device group that will be the initial migrating group.
In this example we named the group Vanguard.
  5. Return to the Phishing and Content Protection tab and select that group from the Manage settings for: dropdown.
  6. Change Deployment type from On-Device VPN to Secure DNS.
  7. Scroll down and click Save Changes.
  8. Navigate to the Devices page and move chosen devices to the new device group.

After a few minutes, iOS devices are prompted for Secure DNS Setup:

    • IOS users are instructed to complete the DNS setup.
    • Android users are not notified and do not need to set up anything.
