How to Enable Smishing on your iOS Device

Once you configure the MES Console for smishing protection you must allow some permissions on your iOS device. Due to privacy constraints, iOS prevents MDMs from pre-granting permissions.
When iOS users update to Lookout for Work 9.0 or higher, and the admin has enabled Smishing Protection, users receive a one time notification to set up Lookout as the "SMS Filtering" provider by tapping a link in the notification, prompting users on the required actions.
  1. Users navigate to Device Settings > Apps (iOS 18+) > Messages > Unknown & Spam.
  2. Toggle Filter Unknown Senders to ON.
  3. Select Lookout Work.
Note: Scanning is only applied to messages from unknown senders. Any saved contact or a number that the user may have responded to at least three times, is treated as known by iOS and is exempt from scanning.
