How to Enable Smishing on your Android Device

When Android users update to Lookout for Work 9.0 or higher and the admin has enabled Smishing Protection, Lookout issues a one time notification to the user to accept permissions to read SMS text messages and to read contacts.
  • The read Contacts permission can be pre-granted by the MDM.

  • The read SMS permission can be pre-granted by the MDM for fully managed Android devices only.

If the MDM does not pre-grant permissions, users follow the notification prompts to manually grant permissions.
  1. Tap the notification as indicated and follow the prompts to get started.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Lookout for Work yellow setup tile.
    • Click the hamburger menu > Setup Needed.

  3. Navigate to Device Settings > Apps > Lookout for Work
  4. Select Contacts permission and SMS permission, and tap Allow for both.
This allows Lookout to scan SMS messages from unknown senders (any contact you have not saved in the contact list).
