Key Use State

A key can have any of these use state values:

Key Use State Value
Assigned Primary (Encryption) The key is in use as a primary key for at least one application. A primary key cannot have an inactive status. To make a key inactive, the administrator must assign a different key to the application as the primary key.
In Use (Decryption only) The key is being used by one or more applications as a decryption key, but it is not currently assigned to an application as a primary key. A key being used this way does not expire.
Never Assigned The key is not being used. It has never been assigned to an application and has never been used to encrypt data.

You can delete only keys with a use state of Never Assigned.
